Lorne Alway has been in the Construction Industry for over 35 years and in that period has worked with organisations in most sectors of the broader industry including building, civil engineering, marine engineering, power generation and transmission, petrochemical and oil rig construction, process plant, rail and underground, leisure and stadium, nuclear and mechanical and electrical installation.
For the first 8 years of his career Lorne worked as a Quantity Surveyor, commencing as a Junior in professional practice and progressing via assistant and Senior Quantity Surveyor with a Local Authority and Contractors through to managing a team of Quantity Surveyors on rig construction and then running the London office for a firm of Chartered Quantity Surveyors, as well as acting as Managing Surveyor for a large national Contractor.
Since 1986 Lorne has specialised in construction law and dispute resolution. During that period, which encompasses the formation and the commencement of trading of Alway Associates (1990), he has acted as lead representative in Adjudication and Arbitration in over 200 cases and he has presented over 1500 days of seminars in the UK and abroad and on a range of topics related to law, dispute resolution and commercial risk and management in the Construction Industry.
Lorne undertakes the drafting of contracts, sub-contracts and supply agreements, pleadings and referrals, vetting of tenders, drafting and vetting of collateral warranties, bonds and guarantees, framework agreements, production of contract administration systems, provision of legal advice including procedural, advocacy in Arbitration and Adjudication, interlocutories and at hearings/meetings. He also advises parties in joint venture and consortium relationships, partnering arrangements and PFI.
In addition to his work throughout the UK Lorne has also worked on commissions throughout the world including Qatar, Bahrain, Dubai, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mauritius, Jersey and Gibraltar.
He has for a number of years been on the RICS Adjudicator panel and has now acted as Adjudicator in over 50 cases and in doing so has dealt with a wide range of subjects including quantum, delays and extension of time, defects etc and across many of the industry sectors.
